I am a PhD student at IRIDIA, CoDE, Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, under supervision of Dr. Thomas Stützle and Dr. Mauro Birattari, funded by F.N.R.S. through FRIA scholarship. My research is focused on the automated design and configuration of stochastic search algorithms for hard optimization problems.
Before joining IRIDIA, I studied mathematics and computer science at Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, and received Bachelor degree and Diplom degree (equivalent to M.Sc.) in 2007 (highest grade).
I was born in a vibrant city in southern China called Guangzhou (Canton) in 1982. My name is 苑志 in Chinese, and officially Zhi Yuan in Latin alphabet. You could also feel free to join most of my friends to call me Eric.
