Abstract

The DNA of some naturally competent species of bacteria contains a highnumber of evenly distributed copies of a relatively short (about 10bplong) sequence. This highly overrepresented sequence is believed to bean uptake signal sequence which helps bacteria to selectively take upDNA from (dead) members of their own species. I will present a modeldesigned to demonstrate the emergence of similar uptake signal sequencesin a population of simulated evolving agents
