Research Goals

The goal of my research project is to carry out fundamental research in the relatively new area of hybrid algorithms for Stochastic Combinatorial Optimization Problems (SCOPs). In particular, a precise framework of scientific strategies to pilot the effective algorithmic design for solving challenging SCOPs. To achieve this goal, we will investigate three complementary areas: (1) the hybridization of simulation techniques and stochastic local search algorithms, which will provide orthogonal strengths in approaching SCOPs; (2) better integration of optimization algorithms and methodologies developed in simulation literature using rigorous probability and statistical procedures; (3) developing an engineering methodology for the implementation of effective hybrid algorithms that guides researchers and practitioners in the development of such algorithms for solving difficult SCOPs.
