Prasanna Balaprakash

Ph.D. Alum (Nov 2004-Jan 2010)

I was an early stage researcher and a PhD student at CoDE-IRIDIA, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium. Senior scientists involved in supervising my doctoral research are Prof. Marco Dorigo, Dr. Mauro Birattari, and Dr. Thomas Stützle. My main research interest is computational intelligence and in particular the design and development of effective algorithms for computationally hard problems. My recent research activities in this field have focused on three areas. The first is the design, development, and analysis of heuristic algorithms for large-scale stochastic combinatorial optimization problems. The second is the design and development of effective machine learning tools for automated algorithm tuning and their exploitation in computer-aided design of high performing algorithms. The third is the application of statistical methods and machine learning techniques for modeling, prediction, and high dimensional data analysis.

From November 2004 to August 2006, I was invloved in the COMP²SYS project (COMPutational intelligence methods for COMPlex SYStems), a Marie Curie Early Stage Training Site funded by the European Commission through the Human Resources and Mobility program (MEST-CT-2004-505079). From September 2006, my research project was funded by Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (Belgian Funds for National Research).
