My research

In my doctoral research, I intend to develop a component-wise analysis of metaheuristics and propose an ontology that allows to clearly classify them. To do this, I am studying and understanding in depth as many as possible of the existing metaheuristics, systematically identifying and analysing their basic algorithmic components and studying what are the different ways in which these basic components can be combined to produce different types of metaheuristics.

The goal of this project is twofold:

  • On one side, I will propose a taxonomy that includes existing and also possible future metaheuristics.
  • On the other side, I will use the identified basic components and possible ways of combining them to propose a meta-framework that allows the automatic generation of metaheuristic algorithms.
