Abstract

Wind is one of the most profitable and promising sources of renewable energy. The wind turbine layout problem (WTLP) is a challenging job, which has different design constraints as terrain boundaries, turbine characteristics, wind characteristics and wake effects on downstream wind turbines.  Therefore, different optimisation methods have been widely used to obtain optimal wind turbine layout for different wind distributions, terrains and turbine positions to minimize the wake effects and maximize the power output. However, little attention has been paid to the comparison of these methodologies with each other. This talk will provide a survey the existing approaches applied to WTLP. Further, several key components of the problem as layout designs, wake models, and objective functions. Several research gaps and future directions will be highlighted in order to guide researchers.

Short Bio of the Speaker

Alkin Yurtkuran, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering in Uludag University Bursa, Turkiye. He has been working on application of several optimization approaches to engineering problems (e.g. vehicle routing, health, renewable energy, energy storage systems design), design of experiments, software development and machine learning for the last 20 years. He is also an entrepreneur, as the co-founder of one of the largest e-micro mobility companies in Turkiye since 2018. Apart from his business life, he travels a lot and likes to enjoy his family.
